Sierra Women Run Well at the Big 8 Conference Cross Country Championship Meet.
The Sierra College wolverines were runner up to the Santa Rosa bear cubs in an exciting team effort from both teams. The friendly rivalry between the two teams has produced close scores for the title in recent years. This year the score was 44 to 55 with the low score winning. Both teams raced well over the Folsom Lake College 3-mile cross country course. Sacramento City hosted the event on Tuesday, October 25th. The final team scores for the women’s race were:
(1.) Santa Rosa 44 points (2.) Sierra 55 points (3.) Diablo Valley 81 points
(4.) Modesto 90 points (5.) San Joaquin Delta 91 points (6.) Sacramento 129 points
(7.) American River 166
The Big 8 Cross Country Champion individual honors was earned by Angelina Law from Santa Rosa Junior College. Her winning time was 19 minutes and 18 seconds. Sierra college placed four runners in the top 14 places which earns “All Conference” recognition. The following places and times were recorded for the wolverines: Sephora Wontor 4th in 20:04, Kaci Zanardelli 7th in 20:29, Julia Mannerino 11th in 20:43, Collette Campbell 13th in 20:52, Kirsten Ransford 20th in 22:05, Melina McKee was 32nd in 24.12 and Gaby Espinoza was 36th in 25: 04 for the Sierra Team.
The final team scores for the men’s 4 mile race were:
(1.) American River 26 points (2.) Modesto 64 points (3.) San Joaquin Delta 79 points
(4.) Diablo Valley 86 points (5.) Santa Rosa 118 points (6.) Sacramento 160 points
The Big 8 Cross Country Champion individual honors for the men’s 4 mile race was earned by Abrahim Alsaidi from Modesto Junior College in a time of 20:52.
