In recent memory, Sierra College Volleyball has dominated both the Big 8 Conference and California community college volleyball, making appearances at the CCCAA state championships, participating in playoff appearances every year this decade, and winning four straight Big 8 titles since 2016. The 2019 team continued that tradition of excellence, with yet another Big 8 conference championship, NorCal final appearance and finished in the top 16 in the state and the top eight in northern California.
Sierra, coming off a 10 match win streak, a fourth straight Big 8 Conference title and round one playoff victory was looking for an upset and a chance to compete for the 2019 state title. Despite a valiant effort from the Wolverines, however, Cabrillo was able to edge Sierra in 5 sets for the 3-2 victory.
Sierra College Women’s Volleyball is on to round two of the 2019 NorCal Playoffs with a decisive 3-0 victory over Sequoias last Tuesday. With the win, Sierra joins the field of eight remaining NorCal teams vying for a spot at the 2019 CCCAA State Championship in Chula Vista next weekend. Sierra will face Cabrillo this Saturday in the finals, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
Ninth ranked Sierra Women’s Volleyball pulled out all the stops last Friday at American River, toppling the fourth ranked Beavers in a thrilling 3-2 victory which brought Sierra neck and neck with ARC for first place in the 2019 Big 8 championship race.
After a postponement earlier in the season, Sierra Volleyball traveled to Santa Rosa on Monday, October 21 to face the bear cubs. The Wolverines stumbled in the second set, but found their footing in the fourth to take down Santa Rosa 3-1 and improve to 6-2 in the Big 8.
