Sierra to host Chabot in second round Saturday night
The Sierra College women's basketball team will host Chabot on Saturday night at 7pm in Rocklin. Ranked No.1 in Northern California and No. 2 in the state, the Wolverines knocked off a feisty Solano 59-49 on February 24.
Bri Moore led Sierra with 27 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, Shanel Jamison added 10 and Leah Richardson had nine points and six rebounds. The win put Sierra (28-1) into the NorCal Regional finals Saturday, March 3 against 12th-ranked Chabot (25-5) at 7pm at Sierra's Goto/Goldenberg Court.
Sierra head coach Brandi Murrish is preparing her team for a fast-paced game with a Gladiators team that features several 3-point shooters. "Chabot likes to play a very up-tempo style," Murrish said. "They like to get out and run on offense and we have to be ready for their full-court pressure defense. Overall they are a very scrappy team and we're prepared for that."
The Gladiators won their fifth straight game with an 85-78 victory over Feather River. Chabot pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Feather River 31-13. Guard Olivia Vezaldenos had 29 points and Sierra Hillman added 19 points. Alyssa Pluth also reached double figures with 12.
Chabot is averaging 82.4 points a game and shooting 41.4 percent from the field, including 33.6 percent from 3-point range. Vezaldenos is averaging a team-best 19.2 points per game (17th in the state) and Mia Finnie (13.4) and Kim Masulit (13.1) also average double figures.
