Bio
Coach Mercedes Williams brings a high level of collegiate playing experience, academic excellence, and a passion for athlete development to the softball field. A former Division I student-athlete, Coach Williams played four years of collegiate softball at Grambling State University, where she was a starter all four seasons as a left-handed second baseman and power hitter/slapper.
During her collegiate career, she earned multiple honors for both athletic and academic achievement. Coach Williams was a nominee for SWAC Freshman of the Year (2014–2015), received Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2017, and earned the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll Merit Award in 2018. She was inducted into the Earl Lester Cole Honors College in 2015, reflecting her commitment to excellence in the classroom while competing at the Division I level. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology and later earned a Master’s degree in Forensic Science in 2025.
Coach Williams transitioned into coaching with the LTG Lions Travel Team, serving as an Assistant Coach for the 14U and 16U teams alongside Brian Seva from 2018–2020. During the same period, she also coached at Granite Bay High School as an Assistant Varsity Coach and Head JV Coach. Her experience across both competitive travel ball and high school programs allows her to effectively develop athletes at multiple stages of their softball careers.
As a coach, Mercedes brings specialized knowledge in infield training along with advanced hitting instruction, with a strong emphasis on power hitters and left-handed slappers. Her coaching philosophy centers on fundamentals, defensive excellence, mental toughness, and confidence, while fostering a positive, disciplined environment that supports both athletic and academic growth.
