Wolverines Battle Into First Place Tie After Strong Week
The Sierra College Wolverines softball team continued its impressive run through Big 8 Conference play, earning a key victory over Folsom Lake on Tuesday to move into a tie for first place after the completion of the first round of conference competition.
Sierra carried that momentum into the weekend with a highly competitive doubleheader against West Valley College on Saturday, March 21. Facing the No. 2-ranked team in Northern California, the Wolverines split the series, handing West Valley just its second loss of the season.
In the Wolverines' victory, Sierra showcased dominant pitching and timely hitting. Lilianna Cruz delivered a standout performance in the circle, throwing a four-hit shutout to keep West Valley's offense in check from start to finish.
Offensively, Briana Parker led the way, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in the game's only run. Her clutch performance provided all the support Sierra needed in a tightly contested matchup.
The split against one of the top teams in the region further solidifies Sierra College as a legitimate contender in the Big 8 Conference as the season progresses.
The Wolverines now turn their focus to the second round of conference play, which begins on Tuesday, March 24, as they travel to Modesto.
