Men's and Women's Swim and Dive win Big 8
The Wolverines swim and dive team are once again the Big 8 Champions, following their conference meet this past weekend at Delta College in Stockton. For the men, it was their sixth straight championship and Evan Terry and Jake Reuter both led with 60 points. Terry won the 50-yard freestyle at 20.86 seconds and also came first in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke. Terry was also on the 200-yard medley relay team with Caleb Tracy, Chris Nihart and Deklan Heinzen, along with the 400-yard freestyle relay team with Reuter, Jonah Grove and Andrew Espinosa, leading both teams to victory.
Reuter won both the 200- and 400-yard IM, the 200-yard breaststroke while leading the 800-yard freestyle relay team to victory with Nihart, Heinzen and Tommy Collins. The 400-yard medley relay team of Heinzen, Collins, Espinosa and Kaleb Wolfinger won at 3:28. Caleb Tracy came in first in the 100-yard butterfly at 50.69 seconds and won the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Espinosa, Nihart and Grove. Heinzen emerged victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke while Espinosa won the 100-yard freestyle. Collins won both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events while John Torres finished in 4:41 to win the 500-yard freestyle.
The women were led by sophomore Camryn Bussey with 57 points, including wins in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle. Bussey was also on the 800-yard freestyle relay team with Isabella Wilhelms, Bella Katapodis and Mackenzie Neese, along with the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Katapodis, Alyssa Agustin and Maile Adao, helping lead both teams to wins. Katapodis came in second in the 500-yard freestyle while Mary Downs won both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. The Wolverines will now prepare for the state championships that start next Thursday at East Los Angeles College.
