Men's Swim and Dive wins third consecutive State Championship
For the third straight season, the Sierra men’s swim and dive team won the state championship as it totaled 712 points at the state meet at East Los Angeles College on Saturday.
The men won in 2019 and in 2022 with no competition being held in 2020 or 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Wolverines were led by Jake Reuter, who earned 57 points winning the 400-yard individual medley (IM) and the 200-yard breaststroke. Reuter was also on the 200- and 800-yard freestyle relay teams who placed first. Evan Terry won the 100-yard backstroke at 48.19 seconds and was on the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Reuter. Deklan Heinzen placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke while Tommy Collins was second in the 200-yard butterfly.
Mathew Alvarado came fifth in the three-meter dive with 221 points. Charles Fleming placed third in the 100-yard backstroke while John Torres was sixth in the 200-yard butterfly. Caleb Tracy was third in the 200-yard butterfly and placed fifth in the 100-yard event. Andrew Espinosa came third in the 100-yard freestyle and was fifth in the 50-yard race. Lathan Skeehan placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM.
The Sierra women’s team totaled 372 points, placing second at state behind Santa Monica College. Camryn Bussey led the team with 50 points and placed second in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races. She was also on the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams who came fourth and the 800-yard freestyle relay team who came second. Laurel Plewe won the three-meter dive with 250.85 points and came in third in the one-meter dive. Sage Crews was fourth in the 400-yard IM and sixth in the 200-yard IM.
Bella Katapodis came sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle race while Mary Downs was seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke.
