#10 Sierra hosts College of the Redwoods at 7:30pm 2/25
Sierra College heads into the postseason coming off a tight 71-69 road loss at Cosumnes River on Feb. 20, a game that underscored both the Wolverines' scoring balance and the thin margin they'll be working with as the No. 10 seed.
Four Sierra starters reached double figures, led by Dontrell Johnson's 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting with three blocks. Jayce Underwood added 15 points (6-of-13) and Matthew Schoreder scored 11. Garret Dutro posted a near all-around line with 12 points, eight rebounds and a team-high seven assists, though he also had three turnovers while going 0-for-5 from deep. Off the bench, AJ Cook provided a lift with six points, hitting 2-of-3 from three. On the glass, Sierra was steady with 31 rebounds, getting eight boards from Dutro and six from Underwood.
Sierra (No. 10 seed) will look to turn that close loss into urgency when it hosts College of the Redwoods at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the first round of the playoffs. This is Sierra's only 3rd post season appearance in the last decade, and first time making post season in back to back years under the leadership of Aaron Lawrence.
The Wolvervines rise has been a team effort that was capped off with three All-conference selections in Johnson, Underwood and Dutro, who also earned Big 8 Conference MVP.
