Baseball Holds off Chabot, 6-3
Sierra used a three-run first inning and steady pitching out of the bullpen to hold off Chabot, 6–3, on Thursday afternoon in Rocklin.
The Wolverines struck immediately against Chabot starter S. Cannon, taking advantage of early traffic and a pair of unearned runs. After C. Kunis reached and later scored, K. Winters brought home the game's first run with a sacrifice fly. T. Hennessy followed with an RBI single to make it 2–0, and Sierra added a third run when E. Cord reached on catcher's interference, allowing another run to score for a 3–0 lead.
Sierra tacked on in the middle innings to keep Chabot at arm's length. In the fourth, C. Gallagher scored on a double-play ball to push the margin to 4–0. Chabot answered in the fifth: E. Yau set the table and R. Winchell ripped an RBI double, then came home on J. Coupland's sacrifice fly, cutting it to 4–2. Sierra responded right back in the bottom half, with Hennessy delivering his second RBI single and Gallagher adding a run with a sacrifice groundout to restore a four-run cushion at 6–2.
Chabot made one more push in the seventh when Coupland lined an RBI single to score Winchell and trim the deficit to 6–3, but Sierra's bullpen closed the door. After B. Andre bridged the middle innings, F. Paredes earned the save with two scoreless frames, allowing no hits while striking out three and working around two walks.
Winchell led Chabot offensively, going 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Coupland drove in two (one on a sac fly, one on a single). Sierra was paced by Hennessy (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and got run production via situational hitting—two sacrifice plays plus early pressure that produced key unearned runs.
On the mound, J. Ghufran picked up the win for Sierra, allowing two runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings. Chabot's Cannon took the loss after a one-inning start in which three runs scored (one earned), with D. Casey covering 4.1 innings in relief.
