Sierra downs Butte, headed to Super Regionals
The Sierra College baseball rolls into the CCCAA Super Regionals after taking two out three from Butte last weekend.
The No. 2 seeded Wolverines will host No. 8 seed Mission College (27-15) in the best two-out-of-three Super Regional tournament beginning Friday, May 11 (2pm).
Sierra (32-10) ousted Butte 15-4 on May 5 behind seven strong innings from Elijah Garcia, who allowed just four earned runs.
After Butte jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning, Sierra's Matt Lopez hit a three-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to put Sierra back on top 3-2.
Butte went ahead again in the second, but Lopez answered back once more, hitting another 3-run shot to put the Wolverines ahead to stay 7-4. Haruto Nakano (3x6) and Randy Schab (2x3) each had three runs batted in.
In game one on May 4, Sierra's Tyler Gums pitched a masterpiece, throwing a complete game, four-hit shutout to lead the Wolverines to a 2-0 win in the series opener. Isaiah Garcia (2x4) and Logan Wurm (2x4) drove in the only two runs of the game in the first inning.
Sierra lost game two 4-1 despite eight strong innings from Nathan Barry, who took his first loss of the season.
