Sierra College Women's Volleyball (2-0) opened their season with a bang, going 3-0 in both of their home opening matches against Shasta (25-23, 25-17, 25-14) and San Mateo (25-19, 29-27, 25-20).

In the first match against Shasta, it was a close first set until Sierra gained momentum, with Sierra's Grace Lemmo leading the offense with 12 kills, backed up by Meghan Merlino with 7 and Maddy Rowland with 5. The wolverine offense totaled 36 kills and 26 digs for the 3-0 win over Shasta.

Match two was a fierce competition between Sierra and San Mateo, each set going back and forth until Sierra pulled off the 3-0 win. Ryan Blackwood racked up 26 of 70 wolverine digs, and Meghan Merlino, Grace Lemmo and Maddy Rowland all had double digit kills (13, 10, 10 respectively).

The Sierra team has a series of road matches over the next few weeks, beginning with two matches at Sacramento City College against Butte and Feather River. The next Rocklin match caps off the non-conference season with the Sierra Classic against Foothill and Siskiyous on September 13. Match times are 1:00pm and 5:00pm respectively.
