Sierra College distance runner Jasmine Napeñas finished 11th in the 10,000 meter run at the CCCAA State Track and Field meet on May 18.
A Wheatland High grad, Napeñas is the first Wolverine track athlete to qualify for the state meet in the program's brief, two-year history. She ran 43:54.93 at the state meet.
"She didn't run a personal best, but she competed hard and ended her career on a positive note," said Sierra head coach Laura Harmon. "She represented Sierra really well."
Napeñas clocked a time of 42:05 at the NorCal finals to finish in fifth place and secure her spot at the state meet. She finished her career as a two-time state cross-country qualifier, a NorCal 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter qualifier and finished second in Big 8 Conference 5k event. Napeñas will transfer to Hawaii Pacific University next fall.
