Sierra College distance runner Jasmine Napeñas qualified for state track and field meet in the 10,000-meter event at NorCal Trials on Friday, May 11.
The Wolverines 4x100-meter relay team of Sarah Thomas, Kyra Tung, Airelle Mitchell and Maddy Morrison finished seventh. Morrison and Thomas are two sport athletes who are also on the soccer team. Freshman Alyse Sibley finished seventh in the 1500-meter event.
A Wheatland High grad, Napeñas is the first Wolverines track athlete to qualify for the state meet in the program's brief, two-year history. Napeñas ran a 42:05 at the NorCal finals to finish in fifth place and secure her spot at the state meet, which will be held beginning Friday, May 18 in Bakersfield.
"She has worked very hard and improved a lot in her second year with the program," said Sierra head coach Laura Harmon.
