Coach Ty Schantz came on board in 2017, after having coached youth and high school football since 1990 in the Folsom High School and Vista Del Lago High School organizations. Coach Schantz has held positions of assistant football coach, defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator and head coach, and is in charge of linebackers for the Sierra program.
He enjoys coaching every aspect of the sport and is excited to be part of the Sierra College football family, and has implemented a unique leadership course, serving as the Wolverine Leadership Coordinator for the program.
Coach Schantz’s hometown is Broderick, CA, which is now the city of West Sacramento. He played tight end and defensive end at River City High School. Coach Schantz played two years at American River College in 1984 playing middle linebacker and defensive tackle. He was awarded First Team All-Conference and was recruited by Coach Mike Bellotti at Chico State in 1986. He received his B.S. in Administration of Justice.
Coach Schantz retired after 30 years of Law Enforcement as a Sergeant with the City of Folsom Police Department. During his career, he was twice awarded Officer of the Year while also receiving numerous city resolutions and proclamations for outstanding police work. Coach Schantz was well known in the community as working with troubled teenagers teaching boxing, coaching, leadership classes and connecting with the community.
Coach Schantz has been married to his wife Dana for 30 years and they have four children, Brittney, Bryce, Jordan and Andrew. Coach Schantz is dedicated to the success of every player he coaches on and off the field. He is always cultivating core values associated with family, leadership and giving back to your community.
