Sierra College Athletics continues the 2019 season with Volleyball, Men's Water Polo and Women's Water Polo Remaining Undefeated in Big 8 play, Women's Soccer picks up another win and Football extends their win streak to three straight with a 45-20 victory over Sacramento City.
Sierra College Football hosted Sacramento City on Saturday, October 5, and for the third straight game between these two teams, Sierra came out on top with a 45-20 final. Sierra's offense, defense and special teams all came to play as Sierra Football picks up their third straight win in 2019 headed into a bye next week. After that, Sierra hosts Shasta in a league matchup on October 19 at 2:00pm.

Sierra College Women's Golf hit the road last week, heading to Big 8 #4, Reedly College. Sierra picked up third place, with Hailey Salomone leading the Wolverines with 77, followed closely by Melanie Anderson with 79. Sierra heads to the Jan High Invitational at Sacramento City College on Tuesday, October 8 before gearing up for Big 8 #5 (Played on a neutral course, Turlock Golf Course in Turlock, CA) on October 10 at noon.
Now 4-1 in Big 8 play, Sierra Women's Soccer continued their 2019 campaign with a 5-0 victory over Diablo Valley on Friday, October 4 at DVC. Grace Vargas scored twice (both off assists from Emma Schultz) while Paige Martinsen (asst. Andrea Cuevas), Frances Andrade (asst. Emma Schultz), and Laura Prine (unassisted) also scored a goal each. Women's Soccer next heads to Cosumnes River on Tuesday, October 8 for a 3:30pm match, then are back at home, hosting Folsom Lake College on Friday, October 11 at 4:00pm.
Sierra College Volleyball remains undefeated in Big 8 play, defeating Diablo Valley 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-12). Freshman OH Jacey Dean led the Wolverine team in kills with 13, followed closely by Kaleya Sanchez who racked up 10 kills. Bekah McGill assisted 16 times, while Ashley Almond assisted 15 times as the two shared time setting. Sierra spends this week on the road, heading to Sacramento City this Wednesday, October 9 for a 7:00pm match, followed by a trip to Santa Rosa on Friday, October 11 for a 6:30pm match.
Men's Water Polo
Sierra Men's Water Polo added another win to their record last week, defeating American River 15-10 in Sacramento on October 2. Sierra is still undefeated in Big 8 play, and has an overall record of 10-4 so far in 2019. Next up, the Wolverine squad hosts Diablo Valley College on October 16 at 3:30pm at Sierra College in Rocklin.
Women's Water Polo
Women's Water Polo had a stellar weekend in southern California, going undefeated at the Mesa / Miramar Tournament, knocking off Pasadena City 20-5, San Diego Mesa 20-4, Ventura 10-7 and Cypress 13-5. Yes, you read those scores correctly! The Wolverine squad outscored their opponents 80-21 on the weekend. Prior to that, Sierra also took care of business at Big 8 rival American River, soundly defeating ARC with a 17-3 final in Sacramento on October 2. One more Big 8 matchup on the road against Sacramento City on October 9 before hosting Diablo Valley at home on Wednesday, October 16 at 5:00pm in Rocklin.

This week, the first wrestling coaches poll was released, ranking Sierra College as the fifth best team in the state, and third in northern California. The third place team (Sacramento City) comes to Sierra on October 30 for what is sure to be a close one, but you can see the Wolverines in action this Wednesday, October 9 as they host San Joaquin Delta and Sacramento State in duals starting at 7:00pm in Rocklin.
