Sierra College teams saw lot's of action this week, with Women's Soccer taking on American River and Sacramento City, Volleyball faced Folsom and Cosumnes River, Wrestling battled in the West Hills Tournament, Men's and Women's Water Polo started off Big 8 play with a win each and Football took down Diablo Valley 23-17.
Wolverine Football added another victory to their record last week, bringing home the road win over Diablo Valley 23-17. Sierra put up 303 offensive yards and three touchdowns, with Qyntyn Pilcher and Preston Eklund sharing time, each passing 125 yards, each for a touchdown. Emoni Karriem received two of Sierra's TD's, while Matt Smart was responsible for a third of Sierra's yardage on the receiving end.
Sierra Football is back home this Saturday, hosting Sacramento City College at 1:00pm.
Sierra College Women's Soccer hosted American River College on September 24. Tied 1-1 at the half, Sierra exploded for three goals in 15 minutes in the second to topple the beavers 4-1. Sierra then hit the road for a matchup with Sacramento City on Thursday, September 26, taking home another victory, this time with a 5-0 final over the panthers.
Sierra has a bye this Tuesday (October 1) and heads to Diablo Valley this Friday, October 4, taking on the Vikings at 3:30pm.
Sierra College Volleyball continued their Big 8 campaign this week with two wins over Folsom Lake (3-1) and Cosumnes River (3-0) last week. In Folsom, it was a fierce battle as evidenced by the close set scores (30-28, 21-25, 25-15, 26-24), but Sierra was able to claim the victory and improve to 2-0 in league play.
Next up in Big 8 play, Sierra hosted Cosumnes River College on Friday, September 27. Sierra won that match 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-23) with Jacy Dean leading that pack with 12 kills while Bekah McGill and Ashley Almond set things up 17 and 12 times respectively.
Sierra will host Diablo Valley on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:30pm in Rocklin.
Men's Water Polo
Men's Water Polo started off Big 8 play at San Joaquin Delta, taking the decisive 17-8 victory over the Mustangs. The Wolverine offense was fairly evenly spread, with 10 different Sierra players contributing goals. The goals leader was freshman utility player Joshua Smet with three to his name, while nine others put away at least one goal each. In goal was sophomore keeper Sawyer Gardetto who saved 13 goals in his four quarters of work and picked up the win in the process. Sierra will take on American River on Wednesday, October 3 at ARC in Sacramento 1t 3:30pm.
Women's Water Polo
Women's Water Polo took home an 8-6 victory in their Big 8 opener, taking down the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs in a fierce battle in Stockton. Sierra freshman attacker Bailey Chapman was responsible for three of the Wolverines goals, while Samantha Churcher picked up 10 saves in goal. Sierra heads to American River on Wednesday, October 2 for a 5:00pm Big 8 face off against the Beavers.
Sierra College Wrestling headed to the West Hills Invitational last Saturday, battling top state opponents and capturing a 5th place finish overall with a couple individual third place finishes as well. Sierra will participate in the West Hills / Fresno City Duals on Thursday, October 3 at West Hills College - Lemoor before hosting San Joaquin Delta and Sacramento State in a home dual at Sierra College on Wednesday, October 9 at 7:00pm.
