ROCKLIN, CA -- Week of September 2 through September 8: Last week Wolverine Football and women's Water Polo kicked off their seasons, while women's Soccer picked up another win and women's Volleyball added two victories to their record.

On Saturday September 7, Sierra College Football hosted City College of San Francisco in the season opener for both teams. Sierra fought it's way back from a halftime deficit of 30-0 to nearly upset the national powerhouse, in the end falling to the rams by just 8 points (37-29 was the final score). Football will travel south to take on Modesto this Saturday, September 14 before hosting West Hills Coalinga on September 21, which is also preview day at Sierra College. Preview Day is open to prospective students, families & community members and provides an opportunity to explore our campus & programs. You can register on the eventbrite website here. Registration also gets you free admission to the September 21 football game at 1:00pm!

Women's Soccer added another victory to their season, improving to 3-1 overall with their Friday afternoon 3-1 win at Hartnell College. Sierra, who is now fourth in the state in goals scored with 15, added three more against Hartnell, all from sophomore forward Grace Vargas. Vargas has scored 8 times so far this season, good for second in the state and over half of Sierra's goals so far this year. In the Hartnell game, assists came from Emma Schulz, Baleigh Zamudio and Quincey Gieck, while sophomore keeper Jordan Higgins made a few great saves, allowing just one Panther goal in her 90 minutes of work.

Women's Water Polo opened their season this past week with a tournament at Saddleback College. The defending state champions opened their season Friday with a thrilling OT victory, taking down Ventura 11-10. Saturday for the Wolverines saw a different story, as Sierra fell to Golden West 7-3, and came up short 16-3 in a 2018 CCCAA State Championship Game rematch against Fullerton. Sierra will take on Big 8 rival Delta on September 25 in Stockton to kick off conference play, with their home opener on October 16 at 5:00pm against Diablo Valley.

Women's Volleyball dispatched Shasta and Marin in their 2019 home opener, blanking both teams 3-0. In the first game of the day, Sierra took on Shasta, defeating the Knights in straight sets 25-12, 25-18, 25-12. Kaleya Sanchez led the Wolverine pack in kills with 11, while Bekah McGill (20 assists) and Ashley Almond (10) combined for 30 assists. Sierra then faced Marin in the nightcap, taking care of business with another 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-11).
